Aztec cities were laid out to reflect their cosmological beliefs, the world consisted of four quarters. They aspired to create an environment that reflected the beauty of the natural world in their art and architecture. Their gods were seen as the ultimate creators of their world and maintaining their creative beauty in art and architecture was very important.
